These initiatives are part of the government’s program to help Fijians obtain land for building homes, land for agricultural purposes and assistance to vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the community.
Fijians who wish to rent land with titles but cannot afford it, will now be assisted by the government.
The government will also settle lease arrears accrued from April 1, 2020 to April 1, 2022 for land lease holders who have some kind of disability or are facing financial hardship with low income.
Over the weekend, application forms were released by the Ministry of Economy.
Fijians who cannot afford to have their residential leases inspected to ensure they are able to obtain official documentation for land boundaries and registered title will be assisted in this initiative.
Those who also wanted to obtain land for agricultural purposes and could not afford to have their agricultural leases surveyed would be assisted.

It would be coordinated by the Ministry of Economy in consultation with the Ministry of Housing and Community Development, the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources and the iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB).
Residential Lease Survey
To qualify for this assistance, candidates:
- Must be a Fijian citizen residing in Fiji;
- Must have an annual family income of $50,000 or less;
- The tenant must fully comply with the terms of the lease; and
- Applicants must not own other residential leases or freehold properties.
Forms are available from any Fiji Legal Aid Commission office, the Department of Housing office at 33 Gorrie Street and the Housing Authority offices in Lautoka and Labasa.
Documents submitted with a completed application form are:
- Certified copy of photo ID;
- Birth certificate;
- Tax identification letter (NIF) or joint FNPF/FRCS card;
- Copy of the lease document;
- Statutory declaration of income; and
- Any other relevant supporting document such as salary slip and/or bank statement.
Applicants should submit their application form by 4:00 p.m. on May 1, 2022 to the email address: [email protected] or hand-deliver to relevant ministries.
Successful candidates will be informed by mail of the surveyor selected to carry out the work.
Payments would be made directly by the government to the surveyor in accordance with the payment schedule approved in the service agreement between the respective agency and the surveyor.
Survey of agricultural leases
To be eligible, applicants:
- Must be a Fijian citizen residing in Fiji;
- Total farm income must not exceed $50,000 per year
- The tenant must fully comply with the terms of the lease; and
- Applicants with more than one agricultural lease may only apply for one lease to be surveyed under this program.
Application forms would be available at all offices of the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources (MLMR) and the iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB).
The following documents must be submitted with a completed application form:
- Certified copy of photo ID;
- Birth certificate;
- Tax identification letter (NIF) or joint FNPF/FRCS card;
- Copy of the lease document;
- Statutory declaration of income; and
- Any other relevant supporting documents.
All applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. on May 1, 2022 to the following email address: [email protected] or hand-delivered to any MLMR or TLTB office.
Approved candidates will be informed by mail of the expert who has been selected to carry out the work.
Payments would be made directly by the government to the surveyor in accordance with the payment schedule approved in the service agreement between the respective agency and the surveyor.
Facilitation of lease arrears
To be eligible, applicants:
- Must be a Fijian citizen residing in Fiji;
- Annual household income cannot exceed $50,000; and
- Applicants with more than one agricultural/residential lease may only apply for one lease to be paid under this program.
Application forms will be made available at all offices of the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources (MLMR) and the iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB).
The following documents MUST be submitted with a completed application form:
- Certified copy of photo ID;
- Birth certificate;
- Tax identification letter (NIF) or joint FNPF/FRCS card;
- Recent lease statement as confirmation of lease arrears;
- Medical report indicating disability (if applicable);
- Statutory declaration of income; and
- Any other relevant document indicating inability to pay lease arrears, if applicable.
All applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. on May 1, 2022 to the following email address: [email protected] or hand delivered to any MLMR office or TLTB office.
Successful applicants will be notified by mail and payments will be made directly by the government to MLMR for state land lease arrears and iTLTB for native land lease arrears.
